Clean Eating - Day 1
May 10, 2008 12:59 pm

So yesterday was my first day of clean eating - eating food that is as close to its natural state as possible. We had company over the night before and needless to say i was up much later than usual and found it really difficult to rise and shine the next morning. Although i was starved for sleep, by the time i got cleaned up and ready for the day, I could feel the hunger kicking in.

BreakFast
I sought breakfast as soon as i got in to work at 8am. I had a bowl of fruit that included strawberries, grapes, pineapples and kiwi. Water melon and cantaloupe were also available but i chose to skip those today. I also got a cup of plain low-fat yogurt which i typically will mix in with the fruit. Delicious! Lastly a 20 oz. cup of tea with no milk or sugar which i enjoy everyday!

Lunch
Hunger struck again 3 hours later at a little after 11am. So at 11:30ish i headed off to make a salad at the cafeteria bar. My salad included:
- broccoli
- tomatoes
- red pepper
- green pepper
- yellow pepper
- spinach
- romaine lettuce
- onion
- garbanzo beans
- cucumber
- sunflower seeds
- tsp of red wine vinegar
- grapes
- 2 tbsps of cottage cheese

I enjoyed this salad with some sumptuous water!

I typically have a starbucks chai(bad bad bad) at around 2pm - a venti with extra pumps and the works. So when ‘chai time’ rolled around i felt a headache creeping in with it. I didn’t take anything for it, i decided to bear it out and continued drinking my water. When i left the office a little after 4pm my head still hurt. I got home and made myself a snack before dinner.

Afternoon Snack

fields

- 1/2 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt
- a couple of strawberries
- a couple of blackberries
- a couple of blueberries
- a handful of raw cashew nuts
- a handful of raw pumpkin seeds

Dinner
When we sat down for dinner at 8pm my headache was gone.Yay! victory at last! Dinner was garlic grilled grass-fed beef with a modified version of quinoa and pea salad.

Evening Snack
I had another helping of my afternoon snack around 10pm while i sat around waiting for my hair to dry. I didn’t get to bed until way past midnight.

Overall a good first day!

Wow, you’ve just made me hungry, lol. My mom always said the more colorful your food the better, keep it up

I like your intake of veges. Are you of carbohydrates? Why not include some corn on the cob. I like mine either slightly grilled or even boiled. What of sweet potatoes? They are hailed for the quantities of fibre they contain, and an energy kick ofcourse.

I read that if you give your body sufficient ‘energy’ you will not suffer the headaches, and you are more likely to keep up with the ‘clean diet’ much longer. Keep on…

@Mwari - no am not off carbs - i just don’t presently have a pesticide free supply of a variety of other foods(not until this wed) plus we are not in corn season yet:-( I dunno that i will have sweet potatoes in my weekly pick up either…although i do like sweet potatoes. If not i will make an effort to find some and use them. Thanks for advice.

    Hey,
I believe I am confused as to the rules of the challenge. How does the consumption of yogurt(I always thought it was spelled yoghurt..silly me) and tea bags play into the challenge?

  5. 5. Seinlife on 11 May 2008 at 6:01 pm

Sorry for the confusion - so with clean eating i don’t have to cut out any foods; i can eat carbs, lean meats and veggies. The things i can’t eat are processed foods and sugar - so no candy or chips or popcorn or anything out of a box that i would get at the store. I would also cut back on caffeine, so am going from 3 to 4 cups of tea a day to just 1 in the AM - with the hope that at some point i can totally kick that habit. Yogurt is a big yes (its just fermented milk) because it’s loaded with nutrients…proteins, calcium, magnesium, potassium etc…the key is that i choose yogurts that are low-fat so i can limit the amount of saturated fat i consume and low sugar for obvious reasons.
ps - i have seen it spelt yoghurt too - so either works! Perhaps it’s an english thing dunno?
