Clean Eating - Day 7
May 15, 2008 8:19 pm

So yesterday after work I went to pick up the first weeks produce from my subscription to a local CSA (community supported agriculture). Although it was rather gloomy from an all day drizzle, I arrived excited with anticipation of fresh produce harvested only a couple of hours prior. The farmer and his wife, a rather jovial pair, had brought us real maple syrup, honey, asparagus, romaine lettuce, kale and green onions. They had rhubarb too but I opted for asparagus instead as the two were available as one or the other. I spent some of the evening prepping the produce for ease of use before stocking it in the fridge. I didn’t get to bed as early as I would have liked and that sort of caught up with me this morning. It just seemed a little harder to leave the warmth of the bed more than usual today. When I did get up I was fairly hungry and ate my usual breakfast as soon as I got in to work. The breakfast was one yogurt, a bowl of fruit and some tea. I didn’t have tea until about an hour after I ate breakfast - no reason - just didn’t want to juggle all the stuff in my hands as I usually do.

Lunch
I didn’t get hungry at all prior to lunch until I happened to notice that it was 11:45 am, so I dashed off to make my usual salad.

fields
- cottage cheese
- grapes
- romaine lettuce
- black beans
- egg
- spinach
- broccoli
- tomatoes
- pineapples
- green, yellow and red pepper
- sunflower seeds

Afternoon Snack
Today being a very busy day at work, I had to use the clock quite a bit as my guide on when to eat. Well except for this afternoon when I got real hungry 2 hours after lunch.
fields
- sliced apple
- a tsp of peanut butter
- a banana

That lovely snack had me satisfied for the rest of my work day until dinner.

Dinner
On the way home I had to stop at the whole food store for some stuff so I figured I would hit their salad bar for dinner. I love their salad bar - it has a lot of variety.
fields
- broccoli
- tomatoes
- kamut
- red cabbage
- regular cabbage
- radishes
- chinese noodles
- butterfly noodles
- red beans and rice
- black beans
- sunflower seeds
- a tsp of balsamic vinagrette
Let me just say I tremendously enjoyed this salad. Of course shortly after I was hungry again, about 2 hours later. Dinner was at 6 pm.

Evening Snack
fields
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1/2 cup of milk
- 3 tbsp of ground flax seeds
- 2 tsp of honey
- 1/3 cup of frozen fruit

Observations
- First day of no sluggishness
- Headache was back in the late evening - went away after dinner - am attributing it to low blood sugar? dunno, we shall see if the same thing happens tomorrow.
- TMI section, my morning breath is not as bad as it used to be - I want to guess that this might be because am not having sugar(chocolate) and sipping wine the night before? another one of those pleasant side effects. Needless to say my dogs are not pleased with this new development at all!
One week down - Yay!

your clean eating is motivating me to eat less chocolate cake lol had to croissants today though…its hard not to eat pastries at work in Denmark, its tradition to bring them on certain occassions…occassions which happen to occur VERY often.
I havent started taking antihistamines yet…been trying your natural treatment…and I’m still affected…just not as bad as usual…so tx! Have a great weekend.

hey seinlife, well done on this! i’m sure you have many a tale to tell under the heading “you are what you eat”…but isn’t 75% dark chocolate good for you? and if yoghurt (fermented milk) is ok for your clean eating, then surely by the same argument, so is red wine (fermented grapes)? :) plus it’s good for the heart. in moderation, ofcourse. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/1719675.stm

@Gal africana - Yay - good for you! I know exactly what you mean about how hard it is not to eat those pastries - at my place of work we have free donuts and bagels on fridays which are very hard to resist! But if we set our minds to it we can do it! Good luck with the natural allergy regiment - please let us know how it works out. I hope your weekend is sunny and great!

@sci-culturist - Thanks much! I agree that wine and dark chocolate is ok in moderation. However therein lies my problem, it is easier for me to cut out all this stuff than to tempt and tease myself by trying to moderate how much of it I can have. Red wine is good for you, they claim, but only if you have one glass a day where one glass a day is about 4 oz! I know when i used to drink wine it would probably be more like 12 oz a night! I have the same problem with chocolate…just don’t know when to stop..LOL. So the easiest way to deal with it at this point, until i get a grip, is to completely eliminate it.
