This is a topic that is near and dear to my heart, I have 2 cousins who are HIV+, one of whom nearly lost his life to complications related it. So imagine my suprise when I read about child prostitution on the rise in Eldoret.

Girls as young as 12 yrs old?
adult males?
and as if that is not bad enough, no protection?

The town mayor has ordered a crack down on prostitution - perhaps he might want to start by arresting all the ‘Johns’ involved - what kind of nut job has sex with a 12 yr old? Since we live in a patriarchal society, I have a hunch that a crack down means arresting the girls and at the most letting the men off with a warning and who knows what happens to the girls when they land in a jail cell with no money to bail themselves out?

I wish the article had more information on how the situation could be alleviated. Anyone know if there are local organizations working to change these girls lives? Or anyone have any kind of information pertaining to this Eldoret situation - please share.

I leave you with a video of congolese musician, Fally Ipupa’s song “La Sida est la” (AIDS is here) which talks about the dangers of HIV and what we should do to protect ourselves.
